Saturday, February 3rd, we organized a Community Clean Up along Redondo Beach Blvd with donated dumpsters from Universal Waste Services & Waste Resources. Along with heavy duty equipment provided by A & A Ready Mix and California Waste Services, volunteers from the community including those living on the streets worked together to clean up several locations along the Blvd. In three hours, we were able to fill 4 40 cubic yard dumpsters removing nearly 45,000 pounds of waste.
We are working on alternative solutions to tackle the chronic issues impacting our business corridors. Our approach has been to create partnerships with our neighbors including those living on the streets. They have to included in our plan. Working along side of those living on our streets, it enables us to create the relationship, figure out what services they are needing and connecting them with the service providers. This clean up resulted in 10 people from 7 RV's helping pull the waste from the sidewalks and onto the streets. During the work, many of them shared the stories of what is happening on the streets. Several told us that people were bringing garbage and dumping it next to their RV's. Some had photos.
These are some of the folks that assisted in Saturday's Clean Up. Thank you to the volunteers from LAMB Presbyterian Church, local business leaders and community members. Your ongoing support is reshaping our neighborhoods.
We are planning to return to Redondo Beach Blvd on Saturday, February 17th at 7a to finish removing the trash. We invite everyone to come out and participate with us. If you are unable to do the physical work, come out take photos for us.
As a Chamber of Commerce, our focus continues to be on Cleaner, Safer, Healthier Streets. We are working daily on the streets throughout the Unincorporated LA County areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez , Willowbrook, Rancho Dominguez and Harbor Gateway. We rely on businesses to support our efforts. If you are not a member of the Chamber, now is the time. We need your financial support. Not interested in becoming a member, consider making a donation to help continue with the clean up efforts. Every dollar supports the work being done on our streets and enables us to purchase heavy duty rakes, shovels, gloves, and push brooms.
