Today, most businesses resumed operations after the long holiday weekend. I can only imagine what it must be like to drive into work not knowing what surprises await. Businesses along the Figueroa corridor discovered water pipes stolen from their buildings (one can only assume it was for the copper). These incidents are happening more frequently especially along the business corridors. I spent today reviewing camera footage from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying the individuals responsible for the theft. I would encourage businesses to start investing in camera systems to help deter potential incidents. Reporting all incidents is our best way of getting increased patrols in the area. My recommendation is to file online police reports for every incident from graffiti, illegal dumping and theft to local law enforcement.
Here are links for online crime reporting for each law enforcement agency:
Arson related fires continue to plague the Caltrans areas along the 110/105 interchange area. In the last 7 days, there have been over 39 fires in the same general locations. Sadly, these fires continue to happen without any investigation or prevention. I working with the media to enlighten our elected officials regarding the ongoing situation. The month of June saw nearly 160 fires. Firefighters are struggling to get these areas under control.
On Wednesday, July 3rd, LAPD Southeast made a traffic stop on Rosecrans & Broadway. When the suspect pulled over, he opened fire on the officers and took off. As of this writing, the individual is still at large. He dumped his vehicle in alley near Athens Park. To read more on this story, click this link
SAFETY is my number 1 priority.
A majority of the crimes happening throughout our areas are not being shared with the elected officials. Until they understand the realities impacting day to day operations, nothing changes.
